Equilingual is a Lake County-based interpretation and translation service provider that helps organizations connect with the Spanish speaking community. Our services include document translation, video and in-person interpretation, conference simultaneous interpretation, community outreach, and engagement for the Spanish speaking. Our goal is to provide reliable, accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation and translation services to our clients and help bridge the communication gap in the community.
Our
Founder
Gilbert Rangel, the driving force behind Equilingual, brings forth a transformative legacy that emerged from two decades of service within the public sector. His extensive journey, marked by roles in the governor's office, contributions to education, public health initiatives, and dedicated work with migrant workers in non-profit sectors, illuminated a troubling reality: a significant communication gap between English and non-English speakers, resulting in an acute lack of equity for both sides.
This disheartening disparity became glaringly evident to Rangel during the Hidden Valley and Mendocino Complex fires. Spanish-speaking families were left uninformed about crucial evacuation orders and aid during the calamitous fires due to the communication breakdown. This revelation propelled Rangel to found Equilingual, a company with a fundamental mission to bridge this linguistic gap and foster equity for both English and non-English speakers.
Rangel, a native of Northern California, intimately understands the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a different society and culture. His formative years in Guadalajara, Mexico, were dedicated to mastering Spanish and delving into his family's culture and history. This unique experience provided Rangel with invaluable insights, enabling him to forge connections between individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Today, Rangel's impact extends far beyond Equilingual. He actively engages in various community initiatives, serving on the Kelseyville Unified School Board, advising the Middletown Arts Center, and collaborating frequently with local county government efforts to better serve the Spanish-speaking community.
In recognition of his unwavering dedication, Gilbert Rangel was honored in the summer of 2023 with the prestigious American Dreamer Award by Congressman Mike Thompson. Rangel's tireless commitment to fostering communication, understanding, and equity among diverse communities continues to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for a more inclusive and interconnected society.
